It should be noted that differences of opinion often occur in the context of Islamic law. Therefore, researchers are interested in studying the views of two great figures, namely Imam Syafi'i and Imam Ahmad bin Hanbal, regarding the practice of muhalil marriage. Due to significant differences of opinion, this research aims to understand the laws relating to muhalil marriage. The research method used in this article is qualitative descriptive research using the library research method. Data was obtained from primary and secondary sources, including official websites. This research also includes a comparison of the views between Imam Syafi'i and Imam Ahmad bin Hanbal regarding muhalil marriage. The research results show that there are similarities and differences in legal views regarding muhalil marriage. The similarity lies in the use of the same hadith evidence, namely the hadith narrated by Tirmidhi. However, the difference lies in the assessment of the intention to perform tahlil, where Imam Syafi'i considers it makruh, while Imam Ahmad bin Hanbal condemns it as haram.
