Abstract

The advancement of medical technology, particularly in the field of reproduction, has seen significant progress. One such advancement is sperm donation, aimed at assisting couples experiencing difficulties in conceiving. The purpose of this paper is to explore the Islamic perspective on the phenomenon of "sperm donation." This paper employs the library research method. The findings of this paper indicate that, from an Islamic perspective, sperm donation is not permissible except when it originates from the husband and wife involved. However, under Indonesian law, the legality of third-party sperm donation remains unclear. This article provides an overview of sperm donation, including the donor selection process, health requirements for donors, sperm collection and storage procedures, as well as ethical and legal considerations associated with this practice. Additionally, the article discusses several controversial issues surrounding sperm donation. While sperm donation can offer hope to couples unable to conceive naturally or to individuals wishing to become single parents, the practice also involves various ethical, legal, and psychological aspects that need careful consideration.
