Abstract

Efforts to balance general and religious education in Islamic boarding schools involve integrating curriculum elements into an inclusive framework. Traditional boarding schools commonly use this approach to enhance quality while preserving culture and religion. This research uses qualitative descriptive methods, collecting data through participatory observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation. Findings reveal: (1) Integrating boarding school and formal education curricula supports religious character development in students through merging systems and including religious subjects in formal and non-formal structures, such as Islamic Studies within regular subjects using traditional texts. (2) Religious character development involves ethics towards Allah SWT, ethics with parents and teachers, consistent pre- and post-work prayers, religious holiday observance (PHBI), Duha and congregational prayers, regular Quranic reading, respectful interactions with different-gender teachers outside classrooms, including respect when meeting dormitory staff.
